Mike Sinclair has worked exclusively within the catering and hospitality industry for the past 30 years and with Catering Design Group (CDG) for 22.
In the last year, Mike has been the driving force on two major projects for contract caterers, Searcys, at the Barbican Centre – Europe’s largest multi-arts and conference venue, located within a Grade II listed building.
The projects saw Mike bring to life the vision behind the Bonfire and Osteria brands across front and back-of-house.
The Bonfire project was nominated for this year’s Restaurant & Bar Design Awards and also shortlisted as a finalist in the Casual Dining Restaurant and Pub Awards.
Bonfire features a completed renovated 300m2 dining space with a state-of-the-art kitchen, whilst Osteria brings to life the vision of acclaimed chef patron of Arbutus, Anthony Demetre.
A crucial element of the brief on both projects was the importance of linking the restaurants to the cultural heritage of the Barbican Centre.
Throughout Mike’s time with CDG, he has worked on memorable projects, such as The Crypt Café for St Martin-in-the-Fields – the landmark church in the heart of Trafalgar Square.
The project saw Mike consult on the transformation of its crypt into a café and the unearthing of medieval artefacts and graves.
Award winning projects have included the catering facilities at the University of Glasgow, which won CDG a CEDA Grand Prix Award.
He also received a personal award from CEDA for his exemplary management of the design of the catering and hospitality areas at Silverstone’s prestigious Pit, Paddock and Conference Complex, spanning approximately 10,000m2.
Further award success was achieved at the Royal College of General Practitioners. The £22m refurbishment to its Grade II listed building saw Mike receive a special award of commendation from the RCGP for his commitment to achieving its goals.
