Colin Barden has now had 18 months to properly get his feet under the table as Managing Director of Stevenage-based Gratte Brothers Catering Equipment. Having had 6 months of working alongside his retiring predecessor, Ian Wolfe, he got a great initiation as to how the company works, what it does well and what it could improve.
This inspired him and other senior management to create an in-depth employee engagement process, the fruits of which can be seen in a £1.2m investment in overhauling the distributor’s headquarters building, ready for future expansion, and equipping all departments with the very latest in design, telephony, maintenance and asset management technology.
This includes wireless digital calling systems in the office and the Call2Field service management software which will allow the distributor’s clients to access asset and service call information online and analyse their spend over a specified date range. Furthermore, an investment in 3D modelling software increased project clash detection and ensured that the kitchen design house could work to BIM level 2 standards, especially useful for BIM-mandated public sector schemes.
Gratte Brothers was impressed with Colin’s wealth of commercial experience, having been in the catering trade towards the start of his career, and, immediately prior to his appointment, for American fire and flood restoration firm Dri-Eaz Products which had comparable sales and maintenance departments to the distributor itself.
