Gas Safety week 2014 kicks off today — and catering equipment manufacturer Mechline insists it is a timely prompt for caterers to check out the gas hose provision in their kitchens.
The Milton Keynes-based company says this is an area where failing to maintain and replace when necessary can lead to serious injury and even fatalities.
Business development director, Ian Cresswell, says that buying something like a gas hose purely on price is a false economy.
“A common failing in commercial kitchens is down to fracture lines in substandard gas hoses, usually because hoses have been specified on price rather than quality, even in a premier installation,” he says.
“A ruptured gas hose spells danger and unnecessary downtime while it is replaced, and if that is with a like-for-like replacement of an inferior brand the problem is only going to recur.”
Mechline distributes the Dormont brand, which Cresswell says offer the only kite marked hoses in the UK and are BS669 Part 2 compliant with worldwide accreditation.
