With catering equipment comprising a not insignificant slice of the £364bn overall UK manufacturing market, foodservice appliance manufacturers may want to sit up and take note of the business trends of the umbrella sector.
According to the most recent Confederation of British Industry (CBI) Industrial Trends Survey, the manufacturing sector stabilised somewhat in February, reporting little change on January’s muted results.
The survey was conducted between 26 January and 12 February, with 497 manufacturers responding.
This found that total order books remained steady after a fall in January, whilst export orders saw a very slight improvement from the previous month. Both now stand at around average levels.
Output volumes were flat over the past 3 months, a very marginal improvement on the previous quarter.
Expectations for production over the coming quarter are again positive, albeit only somewhat above average and a little weaker than the previous month’s expectations.
