Manitowoc emerged this afternoon as the winner of Hotelympia’s ‘most innovative’ catering equipment title for a product developed to help restaurants, pubs and bars maximise consumer demand for blended drinks and premium beverages.
The company’s Blend-In-Cup (BIC) unit outscored products from six other catering equipment finalists after being judged by a ‘Dragon’s Den-style’ panel of industry experts this morning.
The BIC, which is suitable for both behind counter service and self-service needs, can make fruit-based smoothies, frappées, flavour over ice, blended and non-blended drinks and cocktails.
A beverage typically takes less than 40 seconds to prepare using the machine, which features a built-in nugget ice machine, icon-based touch screen control panel and a multi-product dispenser and two mixing stations.
Manitowoc’s VP marketing, Graham Veal, said of the win: “We’re very proud. It’s a tough competition but we really enjoyed participating. We’re absolutely jubilant.”
Toby Wand, managing director of Fresh Montgomery, organisers of Hotelympia, said: “Congratulations to our winners – truly some of the brightest new products in an industry alive with innovation.”
Wand said this year’s competition was the strongest yet, with the standard of entries helping to raise the bar.
The other finalists in the catering equipment category were Adande, Alto-Shaam, Hobart, Lainox, Valentine and Winterhalter.
