Cookstown-based JD Catering Supplies has added another string to its bow by producing its own pizza oven brick.
MD Jason Currie revealed the genesis of the idea: “Like most distributors we were continually finding sourcing brick for pizza ovens very hard. Getting them direct from the manufacturer took a long time to deliver, and often we found when it arrived the brick had cracked in transit.
“For this reason JD Catering is now assisting in the process of manufacturing these bricks to any shape or size.”
The dealer is using a kiln from an old brick works, with the bricks baking in there for 3-4 days depending on the quantity.
The temperature is controlled slowly over the whole period of firing the material, and reaches a high of 500°C.
When finished the bricks are said to be able to withstand heat of up to 1,600°C, with Currie reporting the process can be used in other applications too.
Orders can be turned around within 1 week, as these are made to individual requirements.
JD Catering is open to taking orders from both distributors and end users.
This is the latest in a series of service additions for the Northern Irish distributor, following its launches of the SpaceBank catering equipment storage and appliance motor repair ventures earlier this year.
