Middleby UK has paid tribute to its sales director Andy Walter, who passed away on February 17 following a year-long battle against illness.
It said the company and the industry would be a “far poorer place” for his absence and said that he would always be remembered by those who had worked with him and knew him.
Adrian Wood, managing director of Frialator/Middleby UK, said that Andy had been central to the restructuring of the business during 2009 onwards and was rewarded with the sales director’s post.
He said the 51-year-old’s undoubted charm and tenacity spread throughout both the company and customers alike, calling him “the engine room of the company”.
“Andy had a larger than life personality and has brought so much happiness to all at our company and beyond. He will always be remembered for his fashion sense, which was so colourful and effervescent.
“All the time I have known Andy he only had friends, no enemies. He touched so many people with his caring ways and genuine concern for others. During his illness I have had so many people from within the entire catering industry ask about his wellbeing, it is humbling to have known such a giant of a man.”
Prior to venturing into the world of sales, Andy worked in many catering establishments and served with distinction in the Royal Navy, including during the Falklands conflict.
Andy’s funeral will take place on Thursday 6 March at 12.15pm at Haycombe Crematorium, Whiteway Road, Bath BA2 2RQ. One of Andy’s final requests was that flowery shirts for men and bright coloured dresses for women are to be worn.
The funeral will be followed by a celebration of Andy’s life at The British Legion, 8-10 Charlton Road, Keynsham, Bristol BS31 2JA.
Andy’s family have asked for donations to www.justgiving.com/chris-coe1. Anybody wishing to send flowers are requested that only uncut flowers are sent.
