IFSE continues garden centre sector support

Webbs of Wychbold Garden Centre won one of the IFSE-sponsored trophies.

Croydon-based distributor IFSE has demonstrated its continued commitment to the garden centre dining sector by exhibiting at and sponsoring awards within the Garden Centre Association Conference.

At the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Stratford-upon-Avon on 22 January the distributor used its stand to demonstrate the new Roband High Speed Grill from Metcalfe Equipment, with the help of Lee Thorndike, the national sales manager with the supplier.

The unit is said to rapidly toast sandwiches, panini and focaccia, in addition to producing seared and grilled meat, poultry and fish. This could be suitable for any garden centre looking to enhance the menu offering with what is said to be a quick, easy and efficient solution.

That evening the conference hosted an awards ceremony, which included two IFSE-sponsored categories within the ‘Best Restaurant in a Garden Centre Award’ designation. The distributor’s associate director Anne Peacock presented two trophies during the ceremony.

The garden centre winner within this category was Fron Goch Garden Centre located in Caernarfon, while the destination garden centre winner was Webbs of Wychbold Garden Centre.

IFSE believes both garden centres made exceptional effort in their catering displays, service and front of house design, using innovative technology to promote the food offering and eye-grabbing displays to enhance the customer experience in their restaurants.

Peacock said: “With catering now accounting for up to 25% of business in most modern garden centres, keeping a keen eye on how to modernise and improve the customer experience in the restaurant is a must. Fron Goch and Webbs of Wychbold both deserve this award for their outstanding commitment to improving their restaurants.

“Our team love being a part of the annual event because the garden centre industry is truly unique. There are great people from great garden centres who take huge pride in their industry and have the imagination to realise that good catering facilities can add a new dimension to their businesses.”
