Hobart Independent has revealed that it will shift production of its Ecomax machines to Germany from next year.
The budget range of dishwashers and glasswashers is currently built in Italy, but that will change in January 2013 when production moves to Hobart’s German factory.
It means Ecomax will be manufactured at the same plant as Bar Aid, the other brand sold by Hobart Independent.
Hobart Independent operates as the dealer-focused arm of Hobart, and both Ecomax and Bar Aid products can only be bought through dealer partners.
Stuart Bester, business manager of Hobart Independent, believes shifting to German production will give the company “more of an edge” when it comes to selling the brand through its dealers in the market.
“They will be made in the same factory that produces our Bar Aid machines, which is absolutely fantastic. It will allow us to grow even more because everybody is looking for that German quality,” said Bester.
Hobart Independent is understood to be one of the last parts of the organisation to still purchase from the factory in Italy, so the adjustment in production schedule will bring it in line with the rest of the business.
Bester also noted that at least one other rival manufacturer currently has its machines assembled at the same factory as Ecomax in Italy, so the move will mean there is less chance of its sales proposition being compromised in future.
Bester said it was likely that there could be a small increase in price once Ecomax is being manufactured in Germany, but said it was currently too early to confirm details.
