Hertfordshire dealer heads into liquidation

UK Catering Equipment & Solutions’ website is still functioning, though its phone line is out of service.

Sawbridgeworth-based UK Catering Equipment & Solutions is to be voluntarily wound up, after liquidators were appointed for the dealer on 25 July.

Insolvency practitioner Aspect Plus of Upminster, Essex, is handling the case, with any creditors required to prove their debts to the liquidator on or before 6 September.

It is not known why UK Catering Equipment & Solutions had to take this step. Catering Insight tried to contact the dealer, but its phone number is out of service and it has not currently responded to email enquiries.

On the homepage of the dealer’s website, it states that the firm has been ‘Supplying all aspects of production kitchens for over 30 years’. However, further investigation revealed that UK Catering Equipment & Solutions was incorporated on 20 May 2016 by director, Andrew Dunne, who is 21 years old.

According to Companies House, Dunne was previously the director of a Bishop’s Stortford-based firm called Rational-Combi Co Ltd, which was established in March 2013 and dissolved in November 2014.

Furthermore, Dunne’s father Damien ran Thames Catering Equipment from the same Bishop’s Stortford address from January 2010 to May 2014, when the distributor was dissolved.

UK Catering Equipment & Solutions’ website is still promoting a ‘£1m stock clearance’ sale on brands such as US-based Bulldog heavy duty cookline, Rational, Meiko, Hobart, Bravilor, Franke, Winterhalter, Falcon, Williams and Victor. Furthermore, the firm claimed it ‘will not be beaten on price for any Rational oven’.

The dealer also provided kitchen design, an in-house fabrication and cladding service, plus equipment finance and leasing, using brokers CF Capital. Its website advised that utilising a mixture of new and refurbished equipment could save its customers up to 60% on costs, and it also offered free delivery on all mainland UK orders.

UK Catering Equipment & Solutions detailed it has outfitted kitchens for pie deli Piebury Corner in London; the Nine Group hotel chain; Michelin star restaurant Smith’s in Ongar, Essex and Wapping, London; provided Rational White Efficiency combi ovens for cash and carry Cluckies in Bradford and the Saints Bay Hotel in Guernsey; and residential education facility Newland Park by Academy Residences near Watford, though the case study mentions this project was provided by Thames Catering Equipment.
