An independent UK fryer manufacturer has reeled in its largest ever equipment contract after taking an order worth a cool £100,000.
Cardiff-based Preston & Thomas, which will celebrate a century in business next year, is used to supplying fish and chip shops with two or three frying pans but the order from Benny T’s restaurant in Falkirk spans eight pans.
Preston & Thomas began installing the equipment this week and expects the project to be completed in three days.
When it is in place, the range will be able to produce 240 portions of chips every seven minutes.
Simon Preston, sales director of the company, told WalesOnline it was the biggest range the company had ever produced.
“The range is nine metres long and has taken up most of our factory. It’s a huge piece of equipment and bigger than anything that we have done before.”
Preston said the deal was even more rewarding given it beat a number of fryer companies to the contract.
“Scotland is one of our key markets, but this is the biggest shop in Scotland and our competitors were knocking on the door,” he said. “For a traditional company like us to win that deal from them is a real feather in our cap.”
Preston & Thomas employs around 30 staff and has been designing and building bespoke frying ranges in South Wales since 1913.
