First Choice Group’s parts centre operative, Ian Gould, is getting on his marks for charity.
He intends to be better, stronger and faster than he’s been before when he lines up in this year’s Stafford Half Marathon on Sunday 19 March.
Gould, who took on the 10km Chasewater Challenge for Diabetes UK in September, will be running in the 21.1km event to raise money for Old Tree Nursery, First Choice Group’s nominated charity for 2017, which provides training and employment opportunities for people with learning difficulties and poor mental health.
Hitting the gym five-times-a-week to ensure he’s in tip top condition for the big day, he is determined his training pays off.
“It’s a brilliant charity that does fantastic work to help and support vulnerable people,” he said. “That’s a great motivator for me to raise as much money as I can for everyone at Old Tree Nursery.”
The 43-year-old is putting himself through a punishing, if novel regime so that he crosses the finish line in triumph.
“I’m running on the treadmills at the gym and have some jellybeans on the machine as an incentive, they keep me going!” he added.
“At times I’ve got Stan Collymore running next to me so that gets my competitive adrenalin pumping.”
