Stuart Campbell is set to bring one of South-East Asia’s leading manufacturers of commercial foodservice equipment to the UK market.
The former CaterQuotes MD will serve as Indonesia-based Nayati’s exclusive UK agent and help it to get its first foothold in the UK.
The plan is for all business to be put through the dealer channel.
Nayati has been manufacturing catering equipment since 1985 and while it has an extensive catalogue of products Campbell will initially focus on its 600, 700 and 900 series, as well as bespoke island suites.
Nayati also specialises in producing a complete line of Asia cooking equipment, including woks and teppanyaki tables, which Campbell believes could successful in the UK given the growth of authentic Asian food.
“I first became aware of Nayati during my CaterQuotes days and saw the quality of the products. They have got a fantastic factory, which is just like a European factory, and a great set of high-end products. They are very strong in Asia and the Far East and are supplying equipment to many of the five-star hotels in that part of the world, including Hilton, Intercontinental and Sheraton.
“Although Nayati hasn’t looked at the UK market until now, they have supplied some equipment to Europe, including Disneyland Paris and customers in Russia, as well as Dubai in the Middle East.”
Campbell insists the brand will be able to match up to the quality of existing suite suppliers in the UK market, but at prices 25% to 30% more competitive due to lower labour and production costs versus western manufacturers.
He plans to offer distributors what he calls a “different way of doing business” by using extended payment terms, volume pricing and other tactics to make the brand attractive.
Campbell admitted one of the challenges would be meeting standard market lead times given where the equipment is produced, but he has agreements with the factory that the process will be expedited as much as possible while the UK operation is in its launch phase.
“We’ve already booked our stand for Hotelympia 2014 and hopefully by then we will be in a position where we have a warehouse and can hold stocks in the country,” he said.
Campbell confirmed he was also close to signing a deal with a catering equipment service company that will act as Nayati’s UK service agent for projects.
Nayati’s 20,000 sqm state-of-the-art production plant in Central Java produces a variety of gas and electric cooking equipment, such as open burners, ovens, deep fryers, grills and pasta boilers.
The company claims it has taken extra steps to meet the requirements of international standard certifications such as SVGW, DVGW, VDE and CE.
Nayati has five branches in Indonesia and representative offices in Singapore, Malaysia, Taiwan, Switzerland and the USA. In addition to that it exports to more than 30 countries.
