A north-east entrepreneur has snapped up Newcastle-based kitchen house Catering Solutions (North East), continuing the spike in dealer M&A activity that has been seen since the end of the summer.
Blake Robinson, who owns Exordia Training, plans to use the acquisition to expand his portfolio into the wider catering sector.
Over the next 18 months, Robinson intends to establish a catering academy to train young people and provide apprenticeships and job opportunities within the hospitality industry, of which Exordia Training has experience.
Catering Solutions (North East) was set up a decade ago and designs and installs commercial kitchens. It was owned by MD Brian Glover, who Robinson knew prior to the deal.
Robinson said: “The previous owner is a family friend who wanted to sell his business to someone who would continue to maintain the relationships built up with customers and bring in new ideas, allowing him to retire in a few years.
“I saw this as a great opportunity to acquire a successful local firm – Catering Solutions (North East) Ltd has a fantastic reputation with strong repeat business and good referrals from blue chip organisations down to the individually-owned takeaways and cafes.
"My focus now is on growing the company, and providing jobs and opportunities for young people and the long-term unemployed in the local area.”
Robinson worked with local law firm Gordon Brown to facilitate the deal. It said the jobs of current staff had all been secured following the acquisition.
