The boss of a North East catering equipment distributor is hoping to raise £1,000 for Cancer Research by playing a music gig in memory of a friend who passed away earlier this year.
Chris Keith, director of Sigma Catering Equipment, is part of a swing trio called ‘3 Tones’ which will perform at the Cullercoats Crescent Club in North Shields on Friday 24 October.
The gig has been arranged to remember Andrew Hickie, who lost his battle with cancer in May. He was a greater friend and supporter of the group, attending their gigs across the North East.
Keith said: “We hope to raise £1,000 through ticket sales and a charity raffle, and we have already received donations from Falcon Foodservice Equipment and E & R Moffat, which have been greatly received.”
The group was formed two years, but the trio have performed together for many years with Sing Live UK as soloists. They’ve appeared at venues such as Royal Albert Hall, Channel 5’s Don’t Stop Believing, Sheffield Arena, City Hall Newcastle and Sage Gateshead.
“We will be performing two sets on the night with a mix of traditional swing numbers alongside the more uptempo dance numbers from Michael Buble, ending with some surprise numbers not necessarily from the swing era to finish off the night,” said Keith. “We will also have the charity raffle in the intermission to try to raise as much money as possible.”
Tickets for the event, which runs from 7pm to 11pm, cost £5.
