The Catering Insight Distributor of the Year – North of England Award, sponsored by Blue Seal, will be presented to a catering equipment dealer based anywhere from the Midlands northwards in England which has shone over the past year. This could be due to going above and beyond the call of duty in terms of design, service and installation, or because of other commendable ways they have developed their business.
So the shortlist comprises:
Bournville Catering Equipment
Solihull-based Bournville has entered a new sector of the market this year with its Catering Pod launch. The pop-up kitchen and kiosk can be supplied flat-packed so that it can be ingeniously transported through narrow access-ways and assembled onsite. Bournville estimated that its team would take a maximum of 3 days to install the Pod. The portable kitchen has optional light equipment and comes with up to six electric power sockets to suit each operator’s needs.
CHR has spent this year ensuring it is solely dependent on its own work for projects, from contract to completion, especially during the tendering process. The Preston-based firm has invested in its sales team, focused on growing the business locally, boosted its software capabilities to implement service calls quicker and is even working on a modular version of its EcoChef cooking suite. Projects include the CEDA award-winning Dawnay Arms, the Drunken Duck, and the Forest Side hotel in Grasmere.
Newcastle dealer Crosbys had a busy year, acquiring local competitor J Dodds, taking on and integrating its staff and culture. The firm has managed its cash flow position when dealing with more new business streams, as well as expanding its 4,000ft2 showroom to incorporate a live cook line with extraction and extra project specific meeting/sales rooms with projector and smart display screens. Crosbys has also invested in Tail Lift vehicles specifically for the efficient delivery of project work.
GastroNorth is set to have its best trading year by growing on last year’s turnover by 25%. The team is due to complete its largest supply and installation project at the City of Glasgow College, valued at £3.5m. It is ploughing its success back into the business, as it has invested £50,000 in a new development kitchen, with the latest kit, following its move into state of the art offices in Gateshead. The dealer has also taken delivery of 12 new vans for its service and maintenance support team.
Restaurant Design Associates
RDA has significantly boosted its personnel this year, with the appointment of a new senior designer and an administrator. Furthermore it promoted young talent in the form of Alex Bradley, Nick Bradley and Neil Addyman as directors, to support MD Roy Addyman as the company continues to expand its client portfolio. This year, RDA has seen success in the education sector, through winning new tenders and securing further work with Durham University and Northumbria University.
The electronic vote to choose the winner will open on Monday 31 October, when senior supplier representatives will receive an e-mail invite to participate.
