Heavy equipment is at the heart of commercial kitchens, be it in the form of cooking equipment, refrigerators, warewashers or more. The winner of the Catering Insight Awards supplier heavy equipment category will be whichever company is judged to have produced the most innovative heavy duty appliance for sale through the distributor channel over the past year.
Therefore the contenders are:
Charvet has brought truly heavy duty, high-powered, competitively priced equipment to the distributor market with its One Series and the line has been enhanced with a new 13litre gas fryer and twin 8litre fryers. Furthermore, it has deliberately made appointments to support dealer partners. This includes a design manager to deliver dedicated CAD support and a UK technical manager whose role is to provide technical training support and on-site installation support.
Grande Cuisine has overseen some groundbreaking launches, including Induc’Art, the world’s first induction based plate dressing table that offers an alternative to the hot pass, and the Capic Ecoflam system that automatically switches off the gas burner when the pan is removed. Customer care has been bolstered by the launch of a ‘Training For Life’ initiative, supplied through dealers, which guarantees training through the kit’s lifetime, a huge help for users when kitchen personnel changes.
Frima’s 112L system was developed in direct response to customer demand for a larger version of its two-pan VarioCooking Centre, and with two 25litre pans it is bringing high capacity cooking to small kitchens and can even be installed on the countertop. Efforts have been made to develop a discount structure for proactive dealers, while dealer training events now include group presentations on energy efficient kitchen planning. Additional venues have been added to its CookingLive demos.
Precision has turned the aesthetics of refrigeration design on its head with the launch of its Retro cabinet, a modern, high performance refrigerator with striking vintage style exterior suitable for front and back of house. Customisation options are available to meet the requirements of each location, including glass doors, and it can be painted any colour with a RAL number. Precision hosted its first partner training day this year and increased its support to Cedabond and ENSE.
Winterhalter’s UC Excellence-iPlus undercounter warewasher combines reverse osmosis with a hybrid system that saves water and allows users to select ‘good’, ‘better’ and ‘best’ results depending on the ware. This means glasses and cutlery can be washed with no polishing required. Winterhalter became the first company to achieve carbon footprint labelling this year, while a website overhaul and product familiarisation and technical training have left dealers well-supported.
The electronic vote to choose the winner will open on Monday 31 October, when senior distributor representatives will receive an e-mail invite to participate.
The 2016 Catering Insight Awards is supported by Cedabond.
