Catering Insight Awards 2017 winner: Distributor of the Year, North of England

L-r: Blue Seal northern area sales manager, David Chesshire; Roger Crosby, Business Development Director, Crosbys; Clare Nicholls, editor, Catering Insight; Ben Crosby; projects and design director, Crosbys; and Glenn Danks, MD, Blue Seal.

The Catering Insight Distributor of the Year, North of England category, sponsored by Blue Seal, honoured a distributor excelling in the North, and there were so many of those this year that the voting suppliers had a hard time choosing.

The closest contest of the awards saw several multi-way ties on different occasions and the contest was only decided by one vote in the last hour on the last day of voting. But pipping everyone else was Crosbys.

The Newcastle distributor has completed prestigious and varied projects this year including the two Michelin star restaurant The Raby Hunt (installed in an incredible 2 day window), Hotel Indigo in Durham, The Beaumont Hotel in Hexham, and Fenwick’s retail store in Bracknell.

Immense recent investment comprises increasing its projects team, van fleet and overhauling its website. Being awarded Select Partner Status by Lincat, and adding over £1m spend through ENSE partners evidences this growth. Plus it has built a development kitchen for chefs with partner Delifresh.

Roger and Ben Crosby accepted the trophy, with Roger remarking: “The Catering Insight Awards is now 3 years in, so it feels fantastic to win this year, we’ve deserved it this year.”

Ben added: “All the huge projects we’ve been doing – two Michelin star restaurants – and although we’re based in Newcastle we’re now operating nationally and doing projects in London. We feel we’re a national player which is why I think we’ve won this.”
