Carpigiani triumphs in Hotelympia innovation award

Cyrus Todiwala presents the Hotelympia Catering Equipment Innovation trophy to Carpigiani UK sales director Scott Duncan.

Carpigiani’s Multiple Choice multifunctional gelato and milkshake maker has scooped the Hotelympia 2016 Innovation Award for Catering Equipment.

The winners of this, the technology and interiors categories were announced by renowned chef Cyrus Todiwala on the main stage at the trade show in London’s Excel on Monday.

The innovations were whittled down from hundreds of paper entries to just 18 finalists, with the process culminating in a behind-closed-doors pitch to a panel of respected judges including journalists, industry figureheads and buyers.

Multiple Choice is said to be an innovative machine which can produce ice cream with three different types of variegato and four different flavours of milkshake, boasting an output of up to 400 cones and 250 milkshakes per hour.

The space-saving machine is designed to eliminate the need to purchase multiple pieces of equipment while reducing energy usage and accompanying expenditure.

Multiple Choice also features a self-pasteurisation system, meaning the machine should only require a deep clean every 6 weeks, saving labour and downtime, while also reducing the amount of stock wastage during the cleaning process.

The technology award was won by Wi-Q for its meal ordering and payment interface, while Vegware was the victor on the interiors category with its Recycled Compostable Black Cutlery.

Toby Wand, MD at Hotelympia organiser Fresh Montgomery, said: “Congratulations to our three winners for truly showing the way when it comes to product innovation and ingenuity and very well done to all of our finalists.

“I know the judges were faced with a herculean task in separating them, such was the quality on show.

“Visitors should take time out to experience the winning products, as well as the finalists, for themselves in our dedicated Innovation Awards area.”
