Catering equipment manufacturer Burco will attempt to write itself into the Guinness Book of World Records on Sunday when its water boilers are put through their paces at the Hotelympia 10K race.
A team of 12 Burco employees will be attempting to break the ‘Most cups of tea made in one hour (Team of 12)’ record, which currently stands at 725.
Using the British-made Burco boilers, the team will be using three varieties of tea courtesy of Taylors of Harrogate and 5oz speciality paper cups provided by Huhtamaki in a bid to claim the title.
Jon Usher, head of UK sales and marketing at Glen Dimplex Professional Appliances, said: “The current record will be really tough to beat, but we are feeling confident and hoping we can achieve our goal of becoming an official Guinness World Records holder. We are also hoping to raise some money for Springboard as part of this, which is such a great cause.”
The current Guinness World Records title is held by Devonshire Tea and has stood for more than three years.
Burco’s record attempt will take place from 10am on Sunday 27 April in the Platinum Suit at ExCeL. The tea will be sold with a suggested donation of 50p a cup with all proceeds going to Springboard.
