Bournville Catering Equipment sales executive, Sophie McEvoy, has raised money for children’s charity, Starlight, by completing this year’s London Marathon.
Starlight grant wishes to seriously and terminally ill children, with McEvoy running to grant a girl called Holly’s wish to have dinner with Mary Poppins in Disney World Florida for her 6th birthday.
Holly was diagnosed with congenital nephrotic syndrome at 4 weeks old. Her condition has already required a collection of vigorous treatments and she had both kidneys removed in March prior to having a kidney transplant in May, for which her mum was the donor.
McEvoy originally had a target of raising £5,000, but has beaten that, as the total currently stands at £7,463.88 (including Gift Aid).
Last year she also ran the Birmingham half marathon as part of her training.
Ahead of the London race, she went teetotal for 10 weeks, which she described as a “massive challenge”.
She managed to finish the race in a time of 5 hours, 16 minutes and 41 seconds.
