Marios Poumpouris, the boss of catering equipment supplier Chiller Box, has been shortlisted for two director awards.
Poumpouris is up for the ‘Director of the Year (up to £4.99m)’ and ‘Young Director of the Year’ gongs in the forthcoming London and South East Director of the Year Awards, which is run by the Institute of Directors.
Poumpouris and his business partner launched Chiller Box eight years ago from a spare bedroom in his home and it now employs eight staff.
The company installs commercial kitchens for restaurants, bars, pubs, cafes, hotels and schools across the UK, supplying catering equipment and refrigeration, as well as air conditioning systems.
“It is hard work to set up and grow a business, and as a small and medium sized business owner, you don’t get much in the way of recognition for that,” said Poumpouris. “To be shortlisted in the IoD awards recognises not only my efforts, but those of the team. Without them, we wouldn’t have grown out of that bedroom.”
The director awards are designed to recognise the hard work, inspiration and management skills of business leaders in a wide variety of sectors.
Poumpouris, who is also a member of the FCSI, has already beaten off competition from around 250 entrants to make it to the final. He will find out if he has been successful when the awards ceremony takes place at the end of this month.
