Advance reaches peaks for local hospital fund

Commercial kitchen design and install company, the Advance Group, has its sights set on raising £10,000 for the Luton & Dunstable’s Neonatal Intensive Care Unit appeal.

Dunstable-based Advance Group is supporting the Luton & Dunstable NICU appeal for 2015, nominated by a member of the team who experienced the unit firsthand with the birth of her daughter back in 2012. The funds will support the local appeal which hopes to raise £1.5m to buy extra equipment to enhance the unit and treat 300 more babies each year.

The 3 Peaks Challenge, which took place on 22 August, saw the team battle against the elements to complete three of the highest peaks in England, Scotland and Wales in just under 27 hours.

The team were in good spirits as they ascended Ben Nevis enjoying the beautiful clear views. Descending the next peak, Scafell Pike, through a lightning storm couldn’t dampen their spirits with Snowdon completed in 5.5 hours.

Raising over their £3,000 target, team leader Adam Cater explained: “The scenery was the most beautiful in the world so I’d definitely recommend the three peaks, but maybe not all in one day!”

The 164km London 2 Paris Cycle, which took place between 4-6 September, started at Big Ben and finished under the Eiffel Tower. The first day was not without drama as a member of the team experienced a snapped gear mechanism, ruling him out of the challenge.

Torrential rain couldn’t slow down the remaining team members as they battled busy Parisian streets to reach the finish line. Raising over their £2,000 target, Josh Harbinson commented: “Literally through blood, sweat and tears (and a broken bike) we made it.”
