Blackburn-based catering equipment services firm Acme is celebrating 50 years in business this year.
The company, which recently changed its trading name from Acme Refrigeration to The Acme Facilities Group Limited, has seen the scope of its business change tremendously since its formation in 1964.
It originally specialised in refrigeration as its previous name suggests, but now has interests in catering equipment, kitchen design, fabrication and air conditioning. Earlier this year it expanded into the heating and ventilation services market with the acquisition of DPL Service.
The company operates three separate office locations, with engineers situated around the country to deal with service, maintenance and installations. It employs more than 150 staff.
Commenting on the new moniker recently, the company said: “Whilst we are changing the official legal entity name, for over 50 years we have successfully traded as Acme and that will not change. We are extremely proud of our tradition of starting as a small family owned business and since the 1980s being owned by Pentland Group PLC.”
Acme continues to operate with the existing management structure that it had in place before the name change.
